Acceptable Use Policy

Explain what an AUP is.

Acceptable Use Policy is basically a set of rules laid down that restricts what your not suppose to do at work, school, or some other place of that sort.

Glenvar's AUP would be our Code of Conduct.

  • No Volgar Language: Volgar language is inappropriate and is a bad habit to get into for later in life. You don't want to say the wrong thing and offend the wrong people.

  • a prohibition against use by division employees and students of the division’s computer equipment and communications services for sending, receiving, viewing or downloading illegal material via the Internet: This is so Glenvar doesn't get in trouble for any illegal contenet downloaded by student/teacher.

  • provisions establishing that the online activities of users will be monitored: Glenvar can moniter any computer to insure no body is doing something they aren't suppose to.

  • provisions prohibiting the unauthorized disclosure, use, and dissemination of personal information regarding users: No body is to learn any personal information about anyone throught the computers.

  • provisions, including the selection and operation of a technology protection measure for the division’s computers having Internet access to filter or block Internet access through such computers, that seek to prevent access to
child pornography as set out in Va. Code § 18.2-374.1:1 or as defined in 18 U.S.C. § 2256;obscenity as defined by Va. Code § 18.2-372 or 18 U.S.C. § 1460; and material that the school division deems to be harmful tojuveniles as defined in Va. Code § 18.2-390, material that is harmful to minors as defined in 47 U.S.C. § 254(h)(7)(G), and material that is otherwise inappropriate for minors: This allows Glenvar to block websites that could be harmful to students.

A letter could be sent out with a list of rules in the policy at work.

AUP's are neccesary because they are rules and living in a world without rules in caotic.

If you were the boss of a large company where each employee had their own computer and access to internet, what rules and regulations would you have?
